5. Secure Prisons

This particular aspect looks at two prison projects recently undertaken by the organisation. One of these was located in North London and the other in South London. In the case of the former, the task was to provide coverage to a given area within the prison coupled with digital recording. In the case of the latter, this was to provide full perimeter coverage as well as completely refitting the operation control room. The task in the case of the north London site involved installation of a total of forty fixed cameras linked to a dedicated digital recording system providing thirty-one days cover. The works involved included the provision of a UPS to drive the system as well as all of the air conditioning and electrical works required to fit out the operations room for the control front-end hardware. This was a short time scale project, which was completed in sixteen weeks.

In the case of the south London site, this covered the installation of some forty cameras. There were a mixture of fixed and pan and tilt as well as a mixture of colour and black and white. This upgrade had to be implemented in such a manner to maintain the existing hardware in a fully operational state as the change was made. This change included not only the change over of the control equipment, but the complete refitting of the control room including the console and all of the services.

These services included all of the electrical works, air conditioning and the full decoration of the room involved. As part of the package, a new UPS unit was fitted to drive the front-end control equipment together with a complete replacement of the alarm indicator panel and the provision of a new radio base station.

In both cases, the projects presented challenges of one kind or another. In the case of the former one, the virtue of time and in the case of the latter, the complexity of the works involved together with some of the site difficulties experienced during construction. The primary objective of obtaining full client satisfaction was exceeded in a number of various ways in both these projects.
